About The Rollet Reefs Foundation

The world’s coral reefs are facing extinction within the next 30 to 50 years if bleaching and habitat destruction continue at their present rate.

Our Story

The world’s reefs cover a tiny portion of the planet, just 0.1% of the ocean, yet they support a quarter of all marine life from fish, invertebrates, mammals, and other creatures. This diverse oceanic population depends upon these aquatic structures for shelter, food, protection, and spawning grounds.

Scientists estimate that half of the world’s coral reefs have died over the past 40 years. 75% of the reefs in the Atlantic Ocean are classed as threatened. With the loss of these vital marine habitats, we not only lose these glorious underwater environs that home thousands of species, but communities dependent on these reefs for their livelihood will also suffer

Rollet Coral Reefs Foundation

As an avid scuba diver, I saw the destruction of these reefs caused by coral bleaching, pollution, and over-fishing with my own eyes. There’s a lot of tremendous work being done by many different organizations in the reef-protection space. But I decided to establish Rollet Reefs Foundation to focus on smaller reefs in developing countries, where local communities depend on the income from the reef, and where the governments have fewer resources for education or reef regeneration.

The world is facing a multitude of environmental threats from the over-exploitation of the planet’s resources and lack of consideration as to how ecosystems, from the micro to the macro depend on one another. The ocean with its rolling surface that is impenetrable to the eye from the surface is host to a vast natural world: it provides us with food and oxygen. As it is largely unseen by the people who depend on it, the health of our seas are all too easily forgotten, until the day comes when we realise just how much needed it. Through education and innovation, there is still time to preserve the oceans and protect not just this underwater world, but our own future.
